The Light Up Bridgetown Festival (#LUB2015) is all about just that….lighting up the village both figuratively and literally to celebrate Christmas, family, community and friendship. It began in 2013 with the first Christmas tree being lit outside the village community centre and in 2014 a small but very successful street party was arranged. This year The Bridgetown School Completion Programme is again working with Button & Spoon and local businesses to arrange the event making it bigger and better than ever before.
In keeping with last year the group are working to raise funds for The Bridgetown School Completion Programme and the Wexford based counselling and mental health charity {talk.to.tom} who provide much needed counselling support services in the local schools. In addition the aim is to foster a sense of pride in their village and the wonderful people that live and work there by bringing them together for a night of fun and celebration. The day will start with a Christmas Market designed to promote local craft people and encouraging support for small local businesses. This will be followed by a very exciting street concert. The group are honoured to have two wonderful Wexford bands, Corner Boy and Basciville, performing on the night, who are both donating their time for this amazing cause. There will also be performances from local children’s groups and Wexford composer Liam Bates is working to bring the music together. This is a free event as the group want it to be completely inclusive, therefore, they are running a raffle and are asking for donations at the gate. Corporate sponsorship is always vital to run such events and this group have had wonderful support from local businesses and Wexford County Council, Impression Print, Done Deal, Keane Auctioneer, MW Hire and Pettitts Supervalu St. Aidans. Wexford County Council have also officially deemed Light Up Bridgetown as a festival which will mean the event will be included in the festival calendar 2016 and hopefully receive some funding. We would invite you to join the people of Bridgetown to help them showcase their community and the amazing and dedicated work of Bridgetown School Completion Programme and {talk.to.tom} and should anyone wish to participate in the market please get in touch with Nuala Grant from Button & Spoon. Please note that there will be a road closure in place in the old part of the village with effect from 3pm until midnight but there is still access to McDonald’s Shop and petrol station, alternative routes will be sign posted. |
